Master Class – Jimmy Webb

NOPA and Oslo Jazz Festival invites you to an exclusive master class with the ledgendary songwriter Jimmy Webb.

“See here how she flies
Golden sails across the sky
Close enough two touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon’s a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold ”

These are the first lines of The Moon’s a Harsh Mistress. The song is the first track of Radka Toneff’s classic Fairy Tales album (1982) and holds a special place in the hearts of many Norwegian music lovers. Jimmy Webb’s lyrics and melodies have been performed by numerous artists including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, James Taylor, Isaac Hayes, Dionne Warwick, The Supremes, Johnny Cash, Art Garfunkel, R.E.M. and Carly Simon to name a few.  But Webb is by no means “only” a songwriter he is also an excellent artist and performer. It might well be a legendary master class at Deickmanske Bibliotek on August 20th.
