The three excellent jazz musicians Ayumi Tanaka, Marthe Lea and Thomas Strønen have come together and made the immaculate album Bayou.
The trio found each other through mutual love of free form and sound exploration – drifting somewhere between classical, jazz and everything else. More often than not the music was somber, quiet and minimalist – sometimes the polar opposite.
A fresh and exploratory take on jazz, delicate, fully improvised, meditative and daring. A wide sonic landscape paves the way for free expression, performed with a stream-of-consciousness form of communication.
The album came about after Thomas Strønen visited Munich to complete his work on his own project Time Is A Blind Guide and the album Lucus. While there, the idea for this album blossomed. The Bayou-project was actually recorded all the way back in 2018 in Switzerland but didn’t came into fruition until now in 2021.
