Not another toothless pastiche | Oslo Jazzfestival 2023

Clarinetist Andreas Røysum has had a substantial role within the norwegian jazz environment for the past few years, and has been playing with bands like Miman, Nakama, and Marthe Lea band, as well as collaborating with the likes of Tristan Honsinger, Mats Gustafsson, Axel Dörner, and Alexander von Schlippenbach.

Gathering eleven of his best friends and favorite musicians, the Andreas Røysum ensemble cultivates a rich, adventurous, and flexible musical universe that is inspired by the expressive jazz tradition, contemporary music, and traditional music from North Africa, Southeast Asia, Scotland, and Norway. Luckily, this is not another toothless pastiche of hip references, but an appreciation and understanding of the organic elements that exist across these different traditions.

The ensemble has, in conjunction with their first releases, been referred to as “ a national team of chefs” (Lars Mossefinn, Dag & Tid), “something many could be taken aback by” (Filip Roshauw, Now’s The Time) og “some of the country's most exciting musicians” (Audun Vinger, Dagens Næringsliv).

Andreas Røyrum ensemble believes in music's transcendental and conciliatory powers and utilizes Røysums´ strong compositions as a springboard for melting together as one; to expand time and space.
