Young Jubilarians | Oslojazz 2024

Time flies when you're having fun – and swoosh, 10 years have passed since the Eastern Norway Jazz Center gathered the very first of what has become six regional youth jazz bands in Eastern Norway. During this time, the youth jazz ensembles have established themselves as vital additions to Norwegian jazz life and as very productive breeding grounds for young jazz musicians.

Akershus and Oslo Youth Jazz Orchestra were the first out, and over 10 years, a total of 121 youths have been part of the ensemble. The band has played at clubs and festivals both domestically and abroad, become regular features at both Moldejazz and Oslo Jazz Festival, released an album, and there has even been a documentary made about Akershus and Oslo Youth Jazz Orchestra: "About playing together – as themselves."

Akershus and Oslo Youth Jazz Orchestra convey an astonishing combination of youthful energy and mature musicality, consisting of approximately 20 very talented young musicians aged 14 to 20 under the direction of Olav Andreas Abildgaard.

Aurora Maria Mulvik Skomsvoll – vocals, Evelina Innervik – flute, Jørgen Granly Jørgensen – saxophone, Eivind Urnes Berg – saxophone, Sigurd Nyhus Raude – trumpet, Oliva Halle - trumpet, Ole Koppang - trumpet, Jacob Edwards Granly - trumpet, Mads Torkildsen Bodahl - trumpet, Jonatan Slettli Amdam – trombone, Erik August Refstie – trombone, Petter Lerdalen – guitar, Eva Damberg Reistad – piano, Edvard Alsing Seland – piano, Ola Menes Sørensen – bass, Haldor Vilberg-Jansen – drums, Bernhard Rafael Falkeid Butenschøn – drums and vibraphone
