Charlotte Dos Santos is a relative newcomer on the Norwegian jazz scene, but she’s already made it onto the cover of Jazznytt, been described as “Norway’s best soul artist” by Natt&Dag, and nominated for a Spellemann prize in the Newcomer of the Year class. She released the highly acclaimed debut album Cleoin 2017, when she played at the ØYA festival and earned great reviews. Though born in Oslo, Dos Santos is based in both New York and Berlin and this international and cosmopolitan background emerges in her music: a soulful blend of jazz, soul, R&B with bossa nova rhythms that will delight jazz and soul fans alike.
Dos Santos is a rare new star who is set to shine brightly on the music scene for a long time. She recently completed a mini-tournament here in Norway that she rounded off by playing for a sold-out Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria in January. Given her outstandingly good debut album and her Spellemann nomination, we can safely say that this artist is worth checking out at this year’s OJF!
Make sure that you catch up with Charlotte Dos Santos at Røverstaden on 15 August!
