Dora Morelenbaum has quickly become a star in the refreshing new wave of Brazilian music. Her debut album Pique, released in 2024 by the reputable record label Mr. Bongo, has been warmly received by both critics and audiences. Morelenbaum is also a central member of the critically acclaimed band Bala Desejo, which delivered an excellent performance at the Øya Festival in 2024.
On the album Pique, she builds on the great, proud Brazilian musical heritage, where echoes of artists such as Marcos Valle, Gal Costa, and Caetano Veloso can be heard as clear sources of inspiration in a sun-drenched soundscape. Perhaps this is not so surprising, as Morelenbaum's parents worked closely with both Costa and Veloso on several album releases.
In Morelenbaum's music, you can hear hints of bossa nova, tropicália, and psychedelia, all done in a fresh and updated take, consistently in her distinctive style. The album is produced by Ana Frango Elétrico, who is also a key figure in the new Brazilian music scene. Morelenbaum is accompanied by a swinging band, promising to create a vibrant party at Cosmopolite on this Thursday evening.
