A mighty trio | Oslojazz 2025
With an interplay that is both intuitive and powerful, the Eberson Trio emerges as a vital voice in Norwegian jazz rock. The trio consists of three prominent musicians with distinct expressions and solid grounding in their respective musical worlds: guitar legend Jon Eberson, keyboardist and composer Marte Eberson, and drummer Torstein Lofthus – a rhythmic powerhouse known from, among others, Elephant9 and Red Kite.
This musical collaboration is as much a generational journey as it is an artistic powerhouse. Since the 1970s, Jon Eberson has been a pioneering figure in Norwegian jazz and rock, known for his virtuosic guitar playing and his ability to challenge genre boundaries. His daughter Marte has made a strong mark on the Norwegian music scene – from art pop with Highasakite to experimental jazz and improvisation in her own projects – always with a clear signature in her sonic universe.
After the tragic passing of drummer Axel Skalstad in June 2025, it is now Torstein Lofthus who brings unmatched energy and precision behind the drum kit. He is a sought-after musician across a range of styles.
The Eberson Trio moves through a landscape characterized by freedom, groove, and contrasts. Here, hypnotic riffs meet open harmonies, and the dynamic interplay between the raw and the lyrical creates a soundscape that is both sophisticated and spontaneous.
Following the success of their earlier collaborative projects Empathy and Between Two Worlds, they now continue in trio format to explore the boundaries between jazz, rock, improvisation, and electronics. Audiences can expect both intense moments and deep musical conversations – delivered by three musicians who listen to, challenge, and elevate one another.
