Ellen Andrea Wang & Jon Balke

Ellen Andrea Wang has gone from being one of the most promising Norwegian jazz musicians to establishing herself as one of the finest. She graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music, where bassist Bjørn Kjellemyr was her mentor, and despite her young age, Wang has already participated in several different recordings and received a number of prestigious awards and awards.

In the fall, she’ll release her third album Closeness. This was originally the project she was going to present at the festival. But as things turned, this was not a feasible option due to the international character of the band. But after giving it some thought she suggested a duo concert with the great Jon Balke instead, which is an excellent replacement.

Jon Balke is one of Norway's most renowned jazz musicians and composers. Balke exploits all the grand piano sounds in both traditional and untraditional ways. He recently released a new solo album on ECM. An album marked by tradition and experimentation, composition and improvisation.

The duo will perfom a selection compositions by both musicians and composers during this exclusive Oslo Jazz Festival concert, and they've invited Tone Myskja to contribute with live visuals. Tone Myskja is a Norwegian artist, working with video as a visual and sculptural element in relation to exhibitions, concerts and stage performances. She has previously worked with musicians such as Sidsel Endresen, Rolf Wallin, Oslo Camerata and Jøkleba.
