Håkon Kornstad & Oslo Jazzensemble med Rohey Taalah: Mid-Atlantic

Festsalen, MUNCH

All aboard! | Oslojazz 2024

The jazz and European classical music share more common heritage than one might think, both harmonically and melodically. The small but crucial difference lies in the song and rhythm that arrived in the New World with the slave ships from West Africa. Mid-Atlantic plays with conventions. It's a manifestation of the soul of jazz music, where blending tradition with new expressions and ideas takes center stage.

When the large steamships began crossing the Atlantic, the journey to America was no longer a perilous expedition but a scheduled trip with the comfort one could afford. This traffic resulted in an unparalleled musical cross-fertilization that continues to this day. When the cannons fell silent after World War I, many European musical personalities traveled westward, while jazz pioneers brought jazz to Europe.

Join the journey across the Atlantic at MUNCH with Håkon Kornstad, guest vocalist Rohey Taalah, and 15 jazz musicians who delve into the shared heritage of jazz and classical music!
