Eilertsen’s universe | Oslojazz 2025
Henriette Eilertsen is truly in the spotlight these days. In just a few years, she has established herself as a sought-after and versatile flutist and composer on the Scandinavian jazz scene. With her delicate and dynamic flute tones, she has made a mark as an essential part of bands such as the Andreas Røysum Ensemble and Billy Meier.
In 2024, she received the Kongsberg Jazz Festival's Musician Award and returns to this year's festival with her commissioned work Just a Universe. Last year, she also released the album Om Tålmodighet, which was composed for the ensemble OJKOS and was recently nominated for a Spellemann Award for the best jazz album of the year. In addition to all of this, she leads her own trio, which features a delightful combination of flute, cello, and drums.
This may not be the most common setup for a jazz trio, but together they create a melodic and captivating universe, where Eilertsen's flute playing meets Joel Ring’s distinctive cello tones and Øystein Aarnes Vik’s rhythmic drumming. In Eilertsen’s compositions, there is a fearless navigation through references from jazz history and Scandinavian contemporary jazz, culminating in a fascinating whole with a beautiful and unique sound.
