Jazz movies at Frogner Cinema
In collaboration with Frogner Kino, we will be showing two movies during this year’s Oslo Jazz Festival!
On Monday the 14th of August at 16:30, we will be showing Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes (2023).
The film will be presented by American author Ashley Kahn. After the movie, the audience can participate in a Q&A with director Sam Pollard.
Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes (2023) tells the story of how an ambitious musician was inspired and challenged by the injustices in the world around him. Through his unusual career Max Roach became one of the most influential musicians and cultural activists of the 19th century.
This documentary provides new insights to Roach’s rich and complicated life; his personal struggles, the price he had to pay to raise his voice, and his great musical accomplishments. His life was an epic, musical journey. From revolutionary jazz, to the civil rights movement, and further into experimentations with hip hop and multi-media works.
