Jazzkafé: Christiania 12
Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri
Saturday 17th August 13:30
Dazzling ensemble | Oslojazz 2024
At last, the traditional jazz café is back on the program of the Oslo Jazz Festival, presented by the New Orleans Workshop Jazz Club!
Christiania 12 was founded in 1992 and today consists of some of the leading musicians in their genre on the Norwegian jazz scene. The band is unique in the Norwegian context - all are soloists who, in a stylistically correct and brilliant ensemble play, perform a repertoire with original material from the 1930s and 40s in a completely personal way. Norwegian compositions from this time are also exceptionally well taken care of by the band's regular arranger, Roy Hellvin.
The orchestra's sound and expression are inspired by jazz personalities such as Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson, Luis Russell, Louis Armstrong, and Count Basie. Great stars who seamlessly switched between being orchestra leaders, composers, arrangers, and performing musicians. All left their significant mark on this era in jazz history and gave us a musical heritage of dimensions. A heritage that Christiania 12 manages with the greatest elegance and joy of playing. There is no doubt that it will swing at Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri!
