For lauded British saxophonist, bass clarinetist and composer, John Surman, every project is part of an ongoing adventure. The journey from his imagination to the page, into the recording studio, and finally onto the stage, is a quest for the ‘unspoken words’ in the music.
Surman has lived in Norway for many years and is known for his collaboration with jazz singer Karin Krog and recordings made with amongst others Terje Rypdal. Back in the UK, he played with greats like John McLaughlin, Bill Frisell og Dave Holland.
John Surman’s newest project, Words Unspoken, continues the conversations that started with the music for his trio Invisible Threads – and this time, he has added elements of percussion and some electronics to the mix. Tonight, Surman is joined by Rob Luft on guitar, Rob Waring on vibraphone and Thomas Strønen on drums.
