Joshua Redman & Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity
Extended unit | Oslojazz 2025
It felt completely right that it was Ornette Coleman's "Happy House" that was played when Joshua Redman guest-starred with Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity during Moldejazz in 2019. It became a magical concert moment and a beautiful way to honor Coleman, whom Joshua's father, Dewey Redman, played with for several years. Six years later, we finally get the opportunity to experience a full concert with Redman and Acoustic Unity.
Redman fits in many ways perfectly within the Acoustic Unity universe, where both parties share immense love and knowledge of the freer side of '60s jazz. While there is space for exploration and full throttle, there is always a well-focused eye on the melodic core.
Acoustic Unity has long been recognized as one of the most exciting trios on the European jazz scene, and their latest album "Elastic Wave" from 2022 was met with unanimous praise from critics. Gard Nilssen, André Roligheten, and Petter Eldh make up a Norwegian-Swedish dream team that always delivers top-tier quality. The trio celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and this concert is a wonderful way to mark the occasion.
Everything is in place for a festive conclusion to Redman's week-long role as the festival artist, with a musical summit at Victoria.
