Karin Krog & Hanna Paulsberg: Calling Dexter

The University aula in Oslo has housed many legendary concerts through the ages, but one that never got to play there is Dexter Gordon. Fortunately we’ve managed to get two generations of Ella Prize winners interpret Dexter Gordon in the aula; Karin Krog and Hanna Paulsberg.

Hanna Paulsberg has become well acquainted with the Oslo Jazz Festival audience via her Hanna Paulsberg Concept and GURLS. She has also on several occasions interpreted Dexter Gordon. In addition to being awarded the Ella Prize, she won the prestigious Young Nordic Jazz Comets competition with her Concept band and the Trondheim Jazzfest Youth Talent Prize.

Karin Krog has lived a life in the service of jazz. She has lead her own groups ever since the 60s. With one of these groups she gave room to a then unknown teenager named Jan Garbarek. Krog has been awarded a number of prizes and awards. In addition to the Oslo Jazz Festival's Ella Prize, which she was awarded in 2008, she has received the Buddy Prize in 1965, the Oslo Municipality's Artist Prize in 1981, the Gamleng Prize in 1983 and the Gamleng Veteran Prize in 2014. And as if that wasn’t enough, she was appointed to knight of 1st class of the Order of St. Olav in 2005.

Krog's list of collaborators is long, but a very memorable collaboration is the album Some Other Spring which she recorded with Dexter Gordon himself. This collaboration and Paulsberg's previous Dexter Gordon interpretations will lay the foundation for this master meeting in the University aula.
