Jazz queen at historic venue | Oslojazz 2026

A concert featuring all of Norway’s jazz queen, Karin Krog, in the Aula carries a sense of history with it. A living legend performing on one of Oslo’s most iconic and venerable stages, where great jazz moments have been created over the years.

Despite more than seventy years in the service of jazz, Krog’s voice shows no sign of wear whatsoever. She sings with a warm, expressive voice that conveys lyrics in a way that makes you believe in them. Among her many collaborators are greats such as John Surman, Dexter Gordon, Archie Shepp, Don Ellis, Steve Kuhn, Palle Mikkelborg, Bengt Hallberg, Red Mitchell, and Warne Marsh, as well as Norwegian legends like Arild Andersen, Jan Garbarek, Jon Christensen, and Egil Kapstad. She has been honored with the Buddy Award, the Order of St. Olav, the Anders Jahre Cultural Prize, the French “Prix du Jazz Vocal Europe,” and the Norwegian Arts Council’s Honorary Award.

Joining her on stage is her faithful band, The-Inbetween-Times, consisting of outstanding musicians Staffan William-Olsson on guitar and Terje Gewelt on bass. After nearly 20 years together, the group has developed a chamber-like interplay, whether performing original compositions or songs from the Great American Songbook. The music sounds playful, swinging, moving, and virtuosic.

In addition, John Surman—the legendary British saxophonist and Krog’s husband—will appear as a guest. All the elements are therefore in place for a concert experience in the Aula that we will not soon forget.
