"Hva nå, Ekko?" (What now, Echo?) is a commissioned work for the festival Helgeland Festspillene, by pianist Liv Andrea Hauge.
Hauge is a familiar face to the observant Oslo jazzfestival audience. She has performed at the festival a number of times since her debut in 2019 with Kongle Trio, as part of the festival's talent program Nordisk Showcase (now known as Oslojazz Ung). This trio was also selected to perform on the festival's main program in 2020, and last year they were part of the Jazzintro finals – which they also won!
In 2022 we will see her front a septet with newly written music. Hauge has written a work that is composed to be improvised. It tells the story of Ekko who is unhappily in love with Narcissus. The music explores Ekko's emotions and possibilities, and the unpredictability of improvisational music is a parallel to an echo that speaks freely – and what happens then?
