Mari Kvien Brunvoll, Stein Urheim & Moskus

Barefoot i Bryophyte | Oslojazz 2024

This celebrated project was originally a commissioned work for Vossa Jazz and premiered in March 2023. Mari Kvien Brunvoll and Stein Urheim composed the music and took the initiative, with Moskus contributing to arranging and shaping the music.

Moskus has quickly established itself as a powerful force in the Norwegian music scene, situated at the intersection of minimalism, avant-garde, ambient, and jazz, characterized by a unique chemistry resulting in playful and creative interaction. It's a band of three equal members who switch between free improvisation and exploration of composed material. Here, they meet like-minded musicians in Mari Kvien Brunvoll and Stein Urheim.

The openness and improvisational spirit are also evident in the music of Brunvoll and Urheim. The duo has always been interested in blending the familiar and unfamiliar in their songs, both in lyrics, compositions, and sounds. They often work without a fixed recipe, resulting in songs that are both captivating and challenging, blending tradition, exoticism, and appeal simultaneously.

Just before this concert, the material will be released as an album titled Barefoot in Bryophyte.
