From Maridalen to Gressholmen | Oslojazz 2024
The renowned jazz trio Maridalen, named after the valley lead just north of downtown Oslo, will hold the release concert for their latest album at this year's Oslojazz. The album Gressholmen was recorded in a DNT cabin on the island in Oslofjord, and this August evening, they invite everyone to join them at Gressholmen for a concert at Gressholmen Kro. They are also joined by Emil Brattested (pedal steel) and Erland Dahlen (percussion), who also play on the album.
All three of the trio's albums have received glowing reviews. The debut album Maridalen, released in 2021, was placed on Aftenposten's list of "Best Norwegian Albums of the Year", while the English MOJO Magazine placed it on the "Jazz Albums of the Year" list. Gressholmen has also received deserved attention from both Norwegian and international press.
The music is experienced as intimate, and the trio creates various musical spaces filled with small, different stories. The acoustic sound from double bass, trumpet, and woodwinds invites the listener on new adventures. The trio's soundscape is transparent, providing great space and responsibility to each of the three musicians. We can expect a truly formidable experience when Maridalen invites us to the island community and Gressholmen Kro this evening!
