Based in New York, Marta Sánchez has been one of the most prominent pianists of the past decade. She has made a name for herself with her own trio and quintet, as well as as a solo artist, and has released several critically acclaimed albums. Now she is ready to take the stage at the National Jazz Scene, together with Kanoa Mendenhall on bass and Mark Whitfield Jr. on drums.
The trio album Perpetual Void (from 2024), recorded with Chris Tordini on bass and Savannah Harris on drums, received glowing reviews. For example, DownBeat awarded the album an almost perfect score. The album was written during a period of grief for Sánchez, which gives it a melancholic tone, but the music is above all vibrant and full of vitality.
Sánchez is also currently promoting the solo album For The Space You Left, released this spring. Here she plays a prepared piano and creates a magical musical landscape that has been praised by the press, including The Wall Street Journal.
It will be a pleasure to hear Sánchez perform on the grand piano at Victoria, accompanied by the outstanding musicians Mendenhall and Whitfield Jr., who together form a powerful trio format.
