All-star ensemble | Oslojazz 2025
Mathias Eick has, since the early 2000s, been one of the most prominent trumpeters on the international jazz scene. With his sixth release on the renowned record label ECM, the album Lullaby, he takes a new step in a more acoustic direction.
Eick's lyrical compositions on the album revolve around the theme of lullabies—an idea that all people, no matter how high they may stand in society, were once children and have been sung to. Lullaby is an album that touches the soul and serves as a testament to a fully matured artist who has found his unique and distinctive musical voice.
On the album, we hear Eick's new quartet, consisting of musicians he has looked up to for many years. Included are the fantastic pianist Kristjan Randalu, as well as a technically brilliant rhythm section featuring bassist Ole Morten Vågan and Hans Hulbækmo.
For this concert, Veslemøy Narvesen will join as a guest on stage! Narvesen is currently one of the most active young musicians on the Norwegian music scene. She has previously received the Oslo Jazz Festival’s Jazz Talent award and has made a name for herself as a versatile composer and performer. In recent years, she has toured as a drummer in a number of different projects and ensembles, including Mall Girl, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Anja Lauvdal, and her own solo project, which released its debut album in the fall of 2023.
