Danish vocal sensation | Oslojazz 2025
When the Danish vocalist Nana Rashid released her debut album Music For Betty in the spring of 2023, it marked the beginning of an incredible journey. The album was met with excellent reviews, she has performed numerous concerts and festivals in Denmark and the rest of Europe, and she was named New Jazz Artist of the Year in her home country in 2023. Now she is ready for the Oslo Jazz Festival.
Nana Rashid’s sound stands out on the Scandinavian jazz scene, with an unorthodox winning combination of a cool Nordic jazz tone and a beautiful, vulnerable, and powerful voice that evokes memories of Nina Simone.
With crystal-clear tones and a rare ability to communicate, Rashid describes moments from contemporary dilemmas in an intense yet calming universe. The songs are full of late-night melancholy and contemplation, performed with raw sincerity. Rashid has stated that Music For Betty is both a metaphor for and a tribute to the vulnerable sides of humanity.
For her performance at Herr Nilsen this evening, she is joined by the Danish trio Little North, who also played on Music For Betty and contributed significantly to the album’s wonderful atmosphere.
