Since the 90s, violinist Nils Økland has made a name for himself for his innovative and exploratory playing style. He has released a number of brilliant albums, solo and with various bands, via renown record labels such as ECM, Hubro and Rune Grammofon to fantastic reviews. He’s played with several large orchestras, written music for the London Sinfonietta, films, ballet, theater and played on records with musicians such as Christian Wallumrød, Arve Henriksen, Åsne Valland Nordli and Bjørnar Andresen. He has also made a name for himself with the rock trio Lumen Drones and the improv band 1982.
At the Oslo Jazz Festival 2021's closing concert, the focus is on the Nils Økland Band.
Nils Økland Band consists of several of the country's finest musicians who each contribute to painting Økland's atmospheric musical soundscapes, with a foot in the folk music tradition and a foot in jazz improvisation. These musical soundscapes will be like balm for the soul for a festival audience during the festival's very last concert of the year, on the festival's last day.
