Ola Kvernberg aims to create jaw-dropping moments among the audience when the third edition of Steamdome rolls into the Oslo Jazzfestival and Sentrum Scene on Friday, August 16. Enhanced with a symphony orchestra, the beast becomes bigger and more powerful than ever!

With Steamdome, Ola Kvernberg has made the leap from the jazz congregation through two albums and countless concerts, venturing further into club scenes and dance floors. When he unleashes the third and so far final part of the Steamdome universe, it's without inhibitions in a project that has already proven itself even larger, mightier, and stronger.

When Steamdome I saw the light of day – initially as a commissioned work for Trondheim Jazz Festival and Moldejazz in 2016 – Kvernberg described the project as a sort of midlife crisis, the musician's version of buying a motorcycle. Since then, it has gained a larger and broader significance as his working band and musical main project.

Whereas Steamdome I was quite punkish, jammy, and loose, Steamdome II was tighter and more thoroughly composed. But those who fell for the first two parts will also recognize themselves in Steamdome III – even with a symphony orchestra, the rhythmic aspect will remain central.

Steamdome III: Beyond The End premiered for over 3000 enthusiastic people during the twilight hours of Olavsfestdagene 2023, and during the summer of 2024, Steamdome III will be released as an album. When Ola Kvernberg's finely calibrated machinery takes over Sentrum Scene and the Oslo Jazzfestival, it will be immense in every possible way.

KRISTIANSAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA:

The Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra (KSO) is an orchestra that aims to be in direct interaction and dialogue with the city and region around it. They are constantly looking for projects where expression and ideas meet, inspiring each other to create important experiences for the audience. The conductor for the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and Steamdome III will be Nick Davies, who was also involved in the premiere in Trondheim and in the album recording. Davies has worked with, among others, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gothenburg Opera, and the New York City Opera.
