Oslojazz Talent: Taraf

TARAF is an energetic band that plays Romanian folk music with roots in the Romani tradition. With driving rhythms, virtuosity and raw joy of playing, they create a sound that captivates both heart, soul and dance feet. At the front is vocalist Alessia, originally from Romania, who conveys the music with warmth, power and a genuine connection to the tradition she grew up with. Together with Simen on guitar, Hanna on fiddle and Colin on double bass, the band breathes new life into old melodies.

The repertoire ranges from melancholic Doinas to festive Horas and Sârbas. TARAF lets the audience feast on Eastern Europe's musical pantry. TARAF's members are all students at the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) and have backgrounds in various projects. Among them are bands such as Kjeltring, Himmelskip, Golden Core and Call Them.
