The many aspects of Øyunn | Oslojazz 2024
Drummer and vocalist/rapper Øyunn has found a musical path that leads somewhere between alternative pop, hip hop, and indie, with distinctive grooves and an ear for catchy melodies. Here you'll find, among other things, electronic arpeggios and an expressive vocal with personal lyrics about relationships, hope, inner turmoil, and a quest to find one's own voice.
Øyunn plays drums, raps, and sings, accompanied by a passionate band on bass, synths, backing vocals, and live processing. The performance is dynamic, hard-hitting, and raw. In 2023, she released the concept album Aspects, which was recorded live at the Munch Museum. Aspects was originally a multi-artist work commissioned for the Ultima Festival, involving film, performance, and concert.
Øyunn also plays drums with the Danish rising star Guldimund and has performed with artists such as Efterklang, Nils Frahm, Bugge Wesseltoft, Sam Gendel, and Jon Balke. She has also composed music for productions at the National Theatre, Dansens Hus, and the Royal Danish Theatre. As a solo artist, she brings this diverse background into her music, and it shows. The music is open and exploratory, performed with a great musical abundance by an artist with a broad palette.
Kasper Staub – keyboards, Jens Mikkel Madsen – bass, Øyunn – drums, vocals
Aske Bode – sound and live processing
