Party in the tent | Oslojazz 2026
Pumpegris plays through the night with great tunes, hard-hitting traditional dance melodies, and honest lyrics, where vocalist Vera Sonne draws on everything from traditional Norwegian vocal folk singing (kveding) to rap—in other words, whatever best captures the driving, danceable energy of folk music at any given moment. In addition, Pumpegris takes inspiration from funk, shoegaze, singer-songwriter pop, and hip-hop, approaching all of these traditions with confidence and weight. In this way, they bring folk music into something intimate, gritty, and groovy.
Fritids is Pumpegris's debut album, produced by Tuva Syvertsen. Norway's cultural heritage meets today's youth: traditional fiddle tunes meet rap, fuzz guitar meets hymn melodies. The contrast between vulnerability and humor runs throughout both the music and the lyrics. Pumpegris is coming to the Oslo Jazz Festival and Juret to spread Norwegian folk music through celebration and mischief, just as it originally emerged. The Juret tent is going to be absolutely on fire!
