Originating from pianist Sondre Moshagen's compositions, this young trio presents a sparkling, energetic, and attentive interplay. The music draws inspiration from classical impressionism, pop, and expressive jazz, moving between minimalist collective passages where texture and tonal colors are in focus, to explosive solo sections.

After last year’s edition of the Jazzintro launch program, the trio was named Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2024, and as part of the launch, they will be performing at several festivals throughout the year. The jury’s statement includes: “The trio has clear and strong chemistry within the band and are powerful individual voices with finesse and maturity. The compositions are of high quality, with strong rhythmic authority that creates expansive musical spaces. Their melodic and harmonic ideas give them a distinctive identity that results in beautiful moments. The band's confidence and presence are contagious for the audience and make you curious to hear more.”

Distinctive identity and presence can certainly also be said of saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins. One of the truly great young stars in the jazz sphere at the moment, with three critically acclaimed albums, all ranking at the top of annual best-of lists — including in The New York Times, NPR, and Jazzwise. With melodic and wide-ranging compositions, he has the ability to deeply move listeners. He has also made his mark by performing with legends such as Jason Moran, Wynton Marsalis, and Bob Dylan.

Wilkins will appear as a star guest with the Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio, setting the stage for an incredibly exciting encounter at Victoria this afternoon!
