Raw power | Oslojazz 2025
Weird of Mouth consists of Mette Rasmussen (saxophone), Craig Taborn (piano), and Ches Smith (drums), a trio with exceptional creative impulses that constantly challenge each other and cross musical boundaries. This is a transatlantic project that has had sporadic activity over the years but truly accelerated in 2024 with the release of their debut album, followed by a handful of concerts in the USA. Therefore, it is a pleasure to present Weird of Mouth at National jazzscene this evening, for the first time in Norway!
The album Weird of Mouth, released in the autumn of 2024, received enthusiastic reviews, including in The Wire and MOJO. It features seven tracks that showcase an exploratory trio in free-flowing and raw power. Rasmussen's distinctive outbursts, Taborn's sophisticated piano playing, and Smith's unique rhythmic sensitivity converge in an intimate and vibrant interplay.
These three musicians have previously made an indelible impression at National jazzscene on various occasions, and now we look forward to experiencing the power trio unfold on stage as an unstoppable unit.
