Why Kai centres around the compositions of pianist and electronic musician Kai von der Lippe. With a background and education in acoustic jazz and improvisation, and electronic club music, he has now combined the two musical worlds. The mix between club music and jazz is often executed with standard repetitive elements as accompaniment to improvised solos. Kai is taking another approach to the fusion of the two genres. He designs composed and developing songs where sound from the jazz and improvisation scene are mixed with danceable rhythms and heavy bass.
With Jo David Lysne, Daniela Reyes and Elias Tafjord, Kai has designed a concert as a multimedia journey, where retro films, animations and midi-controlled robots are integrated into the overall experience. Prepared piano, accordion, acoustic guitar and field recordings are mixed together with synths and programmed drums, creating a contrast between the static and electronic live acoustic.
