Fluid and Fragmented | Oslojazz 2025
Y-OTIS is led by the Swedish saxophonist Otis Sandsjö, who is based in Berlin. There, he has shaped Y-OTIS into a boundary-breaking band that cooks up a liberating mix of jazz, electronica, and hip hop. Hypnotic saxophone riffs and jagged rhythms create a fascinating sound mosaic, all masterfully and playfully put together by Sandsjö and co-producer and bassist Petter Eldh. The duo has also worked together in Koma Saxo, a band that is in many ways closely related.
So far, three albums have been released on the Finnish label We Jazz Records, all of which have received glowing reviews. Last year's album Y-OTIS TRE is a dense and atmospheric affair where the band showcases unparalleled playfulness and melodic flair. The music is fluid and fragmented, yet never out of focus—always staying true to the spirit of jazz that underpins the project.
The band gave a memorable concert at Sentralen during the Oslo Jazz Festival in 2022. Now, we get to experience them outdoors at the lovely Juret, in a dynamic and exciting trio format.
