Elegant trio | Oslojazz 2026
For over 25 years, Per Zanussi has been a central figure in Norwegian jazz, known as one of the country's foremost bassists and bandleaders, especially through his work with the internationally renowned ensemble Zanussi 5. Now he continues this work in Zanussi 3, a new trio with both clear ties to Z5 and an eye directed outward towards new musical horizons.
The trio consists of Zanussi on bass, Per Oddvar Johansen on drums and Kristoffer Alberts on saxophones, both of whom have extensive experience in jazz and improvised music at the top level. Johansen has been a creative and powerful partner since the first beats in Zanussi 5, and in Zanussi 3 they further develop their interaction in new directions. The music draws inspiration both from Zanussi's previous projects and from his work with non-Western traditions, such as Korean folk music.
The trio plays with established jazz norms, and the result is complex compositions interpreted with freedom, curiosity and deep musicality. Zanussi 3's debut album was released in 2025 at Sauajazz, and documents a band in close and creative interaction.
