Belonging 50 years

A special celebration

April 26th, 2024:

Hanna Paulsberg, Vigleik Storaas, Trygve Fiske and Hans Hulbækmo will play and honour the classic album Belonging i The University Aula Thursday August 15th, 18.00. Tickets on sale now!

This week marks 50 years since the star pianist Keith Jarrett recorded the album Belonging with Jan Garbarek, Jon Christensen, and Palle Danielsson at the Arne Bendiksen Studio. The synergy of this exceptional quartet, along with Jan Erik Kongshaug and Manfred Eicher, gave us an album that became nearly ubiquitous, reaching far beyond the inner circle of jazz enthusiasts. The music is melodic and challenging, yet always in perfect balance, played by a quartet at the height of their powers. The ECM album Belonging belongs to the absolute top tier of jazz albums, with a unique position in both Norwegian and international jazz history.

In connection with the album's anniversary, Hanna Paulsberg, Vigleik Storaas, Trygve Fiske, and Hans Hulbækmo will perform to honor the album. With Paulsberg's warmly glowing saxophone tones, Storaas's unique piano style, and a potent rhythm section consisting of Fiske on bass and Hulbækmo on drums, it is a lively and virtuosic quartet ready to tackle the task.

"I have a very strong connection to this quartet and the fantastic sound they had, and the way Jarrett wrote songs. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to play this music with such incredibly fine musicians and I am very excited about it!" says Paulsberg.

This will be an evening of celebration with Jarrett's wonderful compositions and the unique sonic landscape of the Belonging quartet, interpreted by a quartet with a fresh perspective, consisting of some of the foremost musicians we have.
