With today's triple announcement, the program at MUNCH during the festival is complete. Mira Thiruchelvam & Vestnorsk Jazzensemble, Håkon Kornstad & Oslo Jazzensemble, Arooj Aftab, Rymden, and the already sold-out concert with Maria Kannegaard Trio make up an adventurous week at MUNCH.

Mira Thiruchelvam & Vestnorsk Jazzensemble

Mira Thiruchelvam & Vestnorsk Jazzensemble's concert at Oslo World 2023 left a deep impression on everyone who attended the show at Victoria. Thiruchelvam's commissioned work Pantone 448C with Cumin draws inspiration from Carnatic classical music, Indian film music, and Tamil folk music. Thiruchelvam is also known for her own band 9 Grader Nord and award-winning collaborations with Gutu Abera and the live version of Karpes Omar Sheriff. For this project, she has assembled a stellar ensemble with diverse musical backgrounds - jazz, folk music from around the world, and modern pop music. The result is an unparalleled musical celebration.

Håkon Kornstad & Oslo Jazzensemble with Rohey Taalah - Mid-Atlantic

Join the transatlantic journey at MUNCH with Håkon Kornstad, guest vocalist Rohey Taalah, and 15 jazz musicians exploring the shared heritage of jazz and classical music. Jazz and European art music have more common heritage than one might think, both harmonically and melodically. The crucial difference lies in the song and rhythm brought to the New World on slave ships from West Africa. Mid-Atlantic is a playful exploration of conventions.

Håkon Kornstad, Oslo Jazzensemble & Rohey Taalah will perform at Festsalen at MUNCH on Wednesday, August 14th at 19.00. Tickets are available here.

Arooj Aftab

There's something hypnotic about Arooj Aftab's voice. It's warm and resonant, with a touch of melancholy and, most importantly, a unique calmness that draws you into the songs. Therefore, it's no surprise that vocalist, composer, and producer Aftab has become a star worldwide with her accessible blend of electronic minimalism, South Asian folk tunes, and jazz. Later this summer, her new album "Night Reign" will be released. On "Night Reign," Aftab depicts small and big everyday moments with a voice of remarkable range and intensity.

Arooj Aftab will perform at Festsalen at MUNCH on Thursday, August 15th at 19.00. Tickets go on sale from Wednesday, April 24th at 10.00.

Rymden

Rymden came into existence in 2018, when Bugge Wesseltoft felt the desire to play in a trio format again. The rhythm section from Esbjörn Svensson Trio joined him, forming the rest of the trio, with Magnus Öström on drums and Dan Berglund on bass. Suddenly, a new super trio was formed, combining two innovative forces at the forefront of European jazz, namely e.s.t. and Wesseltoft's New Conception of Jazz.
