Maria Kannegaard Trio, Irreversible Entanglements and Alexander Abreu & Havana D´Primera ready for Oslo Jazzfestival 2024.

Oslo Jazz Festival is proud to announce three new concerts to this year's festival program: Maria Kannegaard Trio at MUNCH, Irreversible Entanglements at Blå, and Alexander Abreu & Havana D´Primera at Cosmopolite.

Maria Kannegaard Trio

Maria Kannegaard is rightly considered one of the truly great pianists in Scandinavia and beyond. A rarely gifted musician and composer with a unique ability to move the listener, firmly rooted in jazz yet with a heart full of indie-rock, pop, and classical music. Bassist Ole Morten Vågan and drummer Thomas Strønen are precisely the right, intuitive, and rhythmic powerhouse needed to give the music strength and lift the songs to the surface and into the light.

Through the NRK podcast Pianisten, which tells the brutally honest and powerful story of Kannegaard's life, many new enthusiastic listeners have found their way into Kannegaard's melodic and incomparable universe. A universe that this evening will leave an impression that will linger in the walls for a long time.

Irreversible Entanglements

The American quintet Irreversible Entanglements has made its mark on the jazz and adjacent scene with a series of powerful albums, including last year's "Protect Your Light" released on Impulse! Records. The music is rooted in the free jazz tradition, infused with a fresh dose of punk/DIY mentality, and with a clear political edge. Together, they create an energy that spreads far beyond the stage.

Led by Ayewas's compelling and fiery narratives, Irreversible Entanglements is a synchronized and battle-ready collective. The band's distinct individual voices come together under powerful slogans, with an irresistible groove and Ayewa in a free role at the forefront.

Irreversible Entanglements will perform at Blå on Wednesday, August 14th, 22.00. Tickets can be purchased here.

Alexander Abreu & Havana D´Primera

Alexander Abreu & Havana D’Primera are Cuba's preferred salsa orchestra, and they are coming to Cosmopolite and Oslo Jazz Festival on Friday, August 16th, to swing the audience into Latin rhythms.

Since the band's inception in 2007, Havana D’Primera has released 6 studio albums and one live album. Their latest release is "Pueblo Grifo" from 2023, which is about Abreu's upbringing in the province of Cienfuegos. Extremely danceable, with surprising rhythms like rumba and references to urban music, but last but not least: the very best Cuban dance music. The concert is organized by Cosmopolite and is part of the Oslo Jazz Festival.
