Three new concerts added
Two free trios and a classic quartet
April 7th, 2025:
We’re kicking off the week with three new names added to the programme, Sakina Abdou Trio, Røysum/Abrams/Drake and Bodil Niska Kvartett. Tickets are on sale now!
Sakina Abdou Trio
The French saxophonist Sakina Abdou has assembled a remarkable trio with pianist Marta Warelis and drummer Toma Gouband. In a free and fluid form, we hear the musicians in a beautiful dialogue that alternates between the harmonic and the powerful. At the center of it all are Abdou's pulsating saxophone tones.
Sakina Abdou performs at Blå - Himmel on Wednesday August 13th, 18.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Røysum/Abrams/Drake
Clarinetist Andreas Røysum and the Chicago-based bassist and composer Joshua Abrams became acquainted a few years ago, and quickly realized they had to play together in a trio format. In a dream, it became clear and obvious to Røysum that he wanted to be part of transcendentally boiling interplay with Abrams and drummer Hamid Drake. Some dreams seem to function as glimpses of the future, meant to be manifested. Røysum, Abrams, and Drake are now emerging from the dream world, and will perform their debut concert at the Oslo Jazz Festival!
Røysum/Abrams/Drake performs at Blå - Himmel Thursday August 14th, 18.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
Bodil Niska Kvartett
Bodil Niska is an institution in Norwegian jazz, with a long career as a leading saxophonist inspired by greats such as Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, and Coleman Hawkins. She boasts a soft, yet powerful and expressive tone. Her musical approach draws from the golden years of jazz, blending it with contemporary jazz.
For this concert, Bodil has invited the American jazz vocalist England Brooks, who perfectly matches Bodil's sound with her soulful singing style. With her deep and beautiful voice, she has thrilled listeners in jazz clubs and concert halls around the world.
Bodil Niska Kvartett performs at Nasjonal jazzscene Friday August 15th, 17.00. Tickets can be purchased here.
