Welcome to Oslojazz 2024!

The festival is now open!

11t. August, 2024:

The Oslo Jazz Festival starts today, and offers a massive program with over 80 concerts over the course of 7 days. Festival manager Line Juul reports a startlingly good advance sale, with several sold-out concerts, in addition to a number of concerts that have few tickets left.

Oslojazz 2024 has a varied programme, with concerts in the Opera, at the Munch Museum, in Oslo Cathedral and on Gressholmen, in addition to venues around the city. The program is characterized by strong Norwegian headliners, but also by international stars such as Emmet Cohen, Arooj Aftab, Tigran Hamasyan and Marcos Valle.

The festival starts with a bang with the opening concert in the Opera on Sunday 11 August with the legendary Masqualero. Masqualero is a real Norwegian jazz adventure and consisted of Arild Andersen, Nils Petter Molvær, Tore Brunborg, Jon Balke and the late Jon Christensen.

- The demand for live performances from the legendary band has been enormous over the past 30 years. Oslo Jazz Festival is therefore extremely proud to present Masqualero's music on a stage again, with Andersen, Molvær, Balke, Brunborg, and with Gard Nilssen behind the drums, says festival director Line Juul.

Another big event is the 50th anniversary of the classic album Belonging, by Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Palle Danielsson and Jon Christensen. Belonging belongs to the absolute top tier of jazz albums, with a unique position in both Norwegian and international jazz history. In connection with the album's anniversary, Hanna Paulsberg, Vigleik Storaas, Trygve Fiske and Hans Hulbækmo will honor the album with a concert in the University's Aula on Thursday 15 August.

The concert with the Maria Kannegaard Trio at the Munch Museum on Saturday 17 August sold out in record time when it was put up for sale in March. With good reason, Kannegaard is regarded as one of the truly great pianists in Scandinavia, and further afield in the world. Through the NRK podcast Pianisten, many new enthusiastic listeners have found their way to Kannegaard's melodic and incomparable universe.

Oslojazz can also boast the first concert that star tuba player Daniel Herskedal and pop sensation Emilie Nicolas do together since the album Out of the Fog was released in 2022. It is also the first concert to be held without audience restrictions due to the pandemic. Daniel Herskedal and Emilie Nicolas play at Cosmopolite on Tuesday 13 August.

We are also proud to have Ola Kvernberg's wonderful Steamdome on the programme, together with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. Their latest album Steamdome III: Beyond The End has received ecstatic reviews and we look forward to seeing this amazing project come to life on stage.

In addition to the main programme, Oslojazz offers a large selection of free concerts, including this year's Oslojazz Talent and Serendip bands, which can be experienced at Becco, Blå, Herr Nilsen and Juret.
