–As usual, we have something for every taste and the program offers a good variety of both known and less known names in different venues throughout the city. We have expanded the festival with a couple of days and and start out on August 12th. with two concerts. First, we have the opening concert at the Opera where the french drummer Manu Katché, known for his work with Sting, Peter Gabriel and Jan Garbarek, presents his wholly Norwegian dream band. Later in the evening the stage is set for yet another exclusive concert with Joshua Redmans Still Dreaming at Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria, says festival boss Edvard Askeland.
The day after the opening we invite our audience out for a day in the sun.
– This year we’ll return to Karpedammen, the outdoor stage at Akershus Fortress, with an all-star line-up: Gregory Porter, Beady Belle and Jamie Cullum, giving you no-less then three concerts on one ticket!
The festival then continues at familiar venues such as Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria with among others Tom Harrell, Torun Eriksen and Rebekka Bakken, Herr Nilsen with Hovedøen Social Club, Lassen and Bob Dorough, Chat Noir with The Four Freshmen, Bodil Niska and James Morrison & The Brazz Brothers, Gamla with Milenburg Joys Jazz Quintet, Oslo Cathedral with Magnolia Jazzband med Topsy Chapman and Oslo Concert Hall with Lill Lindfors.
In addition to all of this, there will be a celebration of this year’s jubilee Karin Krog in Universitetets Aula where she’ll play with Steve Kuhn and John Surman.
For the audience that is looking for jazz in a wide but modern expression under one roof, we can recommend Open house at Sentralen Friday 18th and Saturday 19th. Here we offer 8 bands each evening, divided into four of Sentralen’s venues: Marmorsalen, Hvelvet, Forstanderskapssalen and Gymsalen. You can walk from stage to stage and concert to concert and catch artists like Jacob Collier, Bugge Wesseltoft, Rohey, Sidsel Endresen & Jan Bang, Dr. Kay’s Interstellar Tone Scientists, the British United Vibrations (UK) and others. For these concerts, we sell only 1-day or 2-days ticket. In addition to these 16 concerts there will be an opportunity to see our 12 chosen Nordisk Showcase-bands in Vinterhagen this weekend, and it is recommended to end the evenings in the same place with Night jam.
We’re also doing a number of pop-up concerts this year both in the center of Oslo and at the airport, so stay tuned on social media where the surprises will be announced. As usual, during the festival there will be a number of activities in addition to the concerts, such as city walks, film screenings, panel talks etc. Our commitment to Nordic Showcase is increasingly more popular and extends every year. Here music students from the Nordic countries gather for 4 days in Oslo to attend master classes, workshops and seminars, in addition to playing free concerts both at Herr Nilsen and Sentralen. We cooperate with Talent Norge on this project.
