Gilberto Gil became known in the late 60s when he and other young Brazilian musicians started the Tropicália-movement. Through political lyrics, they broke with the Brazilian military regime’s controlled pop music and activated young people. This led him to be exiled and lived in London for three years, before he could return home after the regime’s fall. His musical style is influenced by a number of different genres, such as rock, samba, reggae and pop, and is considered a pioneer within world music.
It is ten years since Gil last visited Oslo and played for a sold-out Rockefeller during Oslo World, and it is therefore with great pleasure Oslo Jazz Festival finally can present Gilberto Gil in Oslo Concert Hall!
